Films : Romantic Comedy

by Patricia Britt

The Bounce Back is a timely romantic comedy on love. Nadine Valasquez, Shemar Moore, and Bill Bellamy made a sweet, thoughtful romantic comedy, buddy movie with plenty of scenery for guys, and girls with other notable comedians Sheryl Underwood, and Rizwan Manji in the company of many contemporary actors in a pleasant ensemble cast. This love story shows love can cross your path in any avenue if you see it when it comes played out on a literary promotional tour with contemporary parallels. The cinematography is soothing.

The Bounce Back now in theaters. Baby Girl on it's way soon produced by Shemar Moore with the demand of his Baby Girl supporters.

The Bounce Back joins the ranks of Coming To America, Boomerang, Strictly Business, Jumping The Broom, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, Solomon : The Bible, L.A. Story, and so many others that makes you smile at the possibilities of love.

Movie : Keanu : Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix

by Patricia Britt

One of the least acknowledged movies from a cinematography, story line, and soundtrack point of view for 2016 was "Keanu," perhaps it broke box office records, and I didn't hear about it? Keanu was an urban masterpiece to remember.

What matters is that the movie had an impact on one's soul on a moral, spiritual, and visual level, if seen, and supported. It was a love story, drama, thriller, musical, with so many wild elements centering around taking care of a cat, and the cats adventures. The impeccable precision writing led you on a journey through the stereotypically deprived urban youth gone wrong with all the vices that will grab someone if they half step for millisecond in the international game of oppression, and depression through greed.

In Key & Peele's quest to produce a movie to educate their millions of followers on every level of the advantages of staying faithful to a good woman, Nia Long (Are We There Yet). They masterfully utilized the plot of Samson, and Delilah from the bible Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix preaching to young men caught up in jeopardy to step by step contain the pain, and not to share it with those who could care less to strengthen their core principles. In writing the movie they had to anticipate taking on the role of father figure vicariously, and from the visual impact they were glad to take on the task illustrated hilariously with George Michael's song Father Figure playing through pertinent scenes.

This movie is a movie every man in America should see to stay out of trouble, or to get out of trouble at any age.

Blair Underwood is now on Quantico, however he had a great series no one watched called City of Angles. A new year is approaching, another chance to change the script for the better with actors who represent the many elements of the universal experience of men.

John Legend's acting vehicle for 2016 is La La Land that comes out this weekend, on the heels of his new song release, Love Me Now. If you went to see Straight Outta Compton as an art film vs free speech, you should be equally willing to go see a movie with jazz at it's core, the heart and soul of America. The heart, and soul of elegance and understanding. Support comes in many avenues, not just a narrow vision.

There are numerous historical movies made each year, i.e. "Allied" with Brad Pitt, so when something with a modern flair is in the theaters first weekend box office is the time to appreciate anyone up, and coming. "Moana" was a treat.

Oscar Micheaux, Fred Williamson, Spike Lee, John Singleton, Melvin Van Peebles, the Hudlin Brothers and many others before them laid the groundwork for where we are now. You can produce your own movie on your phone nowadays. Create a story to impress.  When's the last time you saw Posse, Stripes, Scrooged, Ground Hog Day, Clueless, or something with some staying power? A call, or a two paragraph email might reach someone who can supply a different point of view. Laz Alonso has some projects in production ( See imdb.com ) that might be relevant to the times. "If" what a title.

In the bible the people of Babylon lost touch with each other, because they couldn't speak the same language, now you can translate any point of view from any time in an instant. You can visit the wonders of the world on a computer screen with emerald crystal clear waters, and skies. It's a wonderful time to be alive.

In 2017 I'll click my heels three times and wish I was a better writer, and researcher. Resolution to find those box office records, and read Variety for movie receipt comparisons online with new spins. Fantastic movie Key & Peele.

TV : Mariah Carey : Mariah's World

by Patricia Britt

Just as with the void of Oprah's syndicated tv show leaving the air for Ms. Winfrey to launch the OWN Network, we'll soon miss our regal, vivacious, yet earthy First Lady Michelle Obama's presence. However we Grandmother's, Sisters, and Daughters now have Kelly Rowland : Chasing Destiny, and Mariah Carey : Mariah's World to fill the void whether you have female family members you're close to, or you no longer have teachers in your life with female energy, these are the legendary super soul sisters on the block to talk the talk, and walk the walk. To make you laugh, think, and maybe shed a tear or two. Reality at it's best with a dash of testosterone.

Good God! Mariah's launching a new phase to her enterprise. Those talent agents ought to be developing a kids movie for those adorable dem babies if they can conceptualize their lines... I hope there's some beauty tips, and reliable products everyday people can attain. Since Mariah is a whiz with product placement, her fragrances might be center stage, in addition to the power of sustained faith over time in a world crying for sincerity, and value. #MariahsWorld

Some might wonder why Mariah Carey would do a reality show after the habitual detractors tore pieces of Whitney Houston's soul apart. Whitney Houston sung a song, "The Greatest Love of All" that is still raising girls, guys, and anyone who listens with dignity everyday. Whitney's hero spirit lives on in all of us. We've come a long way since Barbra Streisand produced, and starred in Yentl. Glitter girls, and mentor girls, and guys.

My perception of Mariah Carey is that she is the consummate New Yorker not scared of nuthin, except sometimes. She's a don't hate me cause I'm beautiful girl, she's an aging beauty, she's a business woman, she's a loved, and envied figure who's not afraid to appreciate her contemporaries. She's a trend setter, an icon, superstar, modern woman, and diva in the traditional sense due to her talent. The only thing to expect is the 411 on how to deal with life for the millions of girls she's raised in the last 20 years, humility, munchkin sweetness, swift responses to entertainment surprises, some slap stick skits thrown in for the lambs, and the instigators. That James Packer is a Hunk. That silly Nick Cannon brought laughs to the table. What else, I guess you'll have to tune in each week? I will :)

All these ladies are bosses, with hearts to spare in spite of being the center of attention 24/7 rain, sleet, snow, or sunshine, and always at their best for years at a time. bop bop bop ba ba super soul sisters ... Thank you, Michelle & Mariah. Love forever & a day.

April 11 - Happy Birthday Mariah ...

Post Script : Mariah's World was cute, wild, and entertaining. I hope it gets a second season if she goes on another world tour where her vans get to see other parts of the world from her perspective. The air that is Mariah is still a cool breeze.

The love balladeer is still searching for love once she takes a deep breath. Yet all I have to say is she has some good taste in men from the scenery aspect. Bryan Tanaka, Nic Cannon, James     , Tommy Mottolla and her other guys were all good looking. Tommy Mottolla had to talk about Mariah in his book, because she's apparently unforgettable, and a treasure he wants the whole world to know he let her dazzle first. Thank you, Tommy. Mariah has uplifted my soul many a day.
